My 1st Blog Post.... Updating my website and doing small business owner things. All You Need Is Ice Cream!!

Kreativity: I specialize in on site photography.... (and create tutu's upon special request)

I take a non-traditional approach to craft and photography. My products are full of creative whimsy with a kitschy feel and vintage flair.

I originally started my business making jewelry and tutu's... my 3 best friends sat down with me one day and were like, "Kim, your idea is great, but you should do photography."

I have an undergrad degree in art and a master's degree in art education so I was lucky to have taken photography and graphic design classes in college. I have always been the annoying friend getting everyone together for a "GROUP PICTURE!!!" and just taking pics in general.... since about 2nd grade. So that's a long time now. The transition seemed natural and I was like, "sure why not"!!

I began by getting my business license, researching a few favorite photographers, reading, reacquainting myself with photoshop, and ordering lights, backdrops, and props. Lots of props!! I was lucky to have a studio for 10 years but ended up moving away from the studio setting and loving natural light and the relaxed atmosphere of outdoor and on site photography.

So these days...If ur thinking pictures think outdoors!! OR I can come to you. I love how relaxed and comfortable people are in the comfort of their homes and outside in cool places. I love to incorporate fun props with a vintage feel or pop of color. Outdoor locations have some character and unique details and imperfections that give the photos some texture and depth.

I  love to talk to clients about interests and hobbies and set up sessions that reflect their personality.

If you are looking to set up a unique session I usually book about about 1-3 weeks in advance and accept a limited number of sessions per month. Contact me today to ensure the time and date you desire is available.

I am truly grateful for all of the amazing humans I have met over the years. Many clients I consider my friends. I have had the opportunity to watch babies and kiddos grow, photograph some amazing life moments.
Truth be told I never thought I would be a business owner or a photographer for that matter. One of the best parts of being a portrait photographer is preserving special moments in people’s lives....  But there doesn’t need to be a special occasion to have your portrait taken. Sometimes it is simply the love that you feel for your family, or that your little ones are growing up so fast and you want to capture that moment in time. Some of the most amazing photographs are the in-between moments that happen during a session.

When I am not behind the camera you will find me cooking yummy food, drinking a warm latte, practicing or teaching yoga, teaching art, traveling, hanging with friends, loved ones, and playing with my cat Anchovies.

Doubt, Change, Direction, and Finding Balance

New post on my @kreativitybykimweber page on Instagram!!! Check it out!!!

The decision to sell  my studio last year on top of my mother's death was really hard.... Over the years I have had many moments of "Yes", "No", doubt, guilt, change, direction, and finding balance.

I recently created an Instagram page with a mix of my photography over the years. I am finally putting together a digital portfolio so to speak! Feels so good to have it in one place and see a bunch of pics I’ve taken over the years.

As an artist i continue to evolve, feel bad ass at times and then at certain times feel like I’m not good enough. After putting this all together i was proud of myself and like yep, you got this. At one point i was overwhelmed because i took any apt any time. I was constantly working... teaching art for my full time job mon-fri, taking pics all day sat, and editing all day Sunday and on the week nights. It was scary to step back a lil and i felt a lot of guilt for not saying “yes” all the time or having clients wait. In the end i needed some of my life back to get my creative energy back.

I always want to be excited to take pictures and come up with creative ideas for props, poses, and places. I threw teaching yoga into the mix and had to adjust my schedule again. I’m a creative and passionate person and i am often pulling myself into different directions because i have so many ideas. Last year around this time i decided to sell all of my studio stuff and focus on natural light and on location photography.... also scary. I had been out of the studio more and more and any time someone wanted in studio pics I’d try to push to do them outdoors. I had a bunch of people ask if i was done, stopped taking pictures, etc bc they saw that the studio stuff was for sale. I have loved the switch. I learned so much from having my studio and it was so wonderful for newborns and during crappy wny winter weather. The studio was always consistent... the light was the same, the environment was controlled, the props were all there. I could show up, throw on some Frank Sinatra, turn on the lights and be ready to rock... BONUS!!! It was at my mom's and often she would get it ready for me and do the laundry if a newborn had an accident or a cake smash went wild LOL. The decision was hard. I debated and debated... but in my gut and heart I knew selling the lights and the backdrops was the right thing to do. I kept all my favorite props and made an area in my home to keep them clean and organized.

Back in the day when I 1st started my business and I was working like crazy people would ask me all the time if I was going to quit my job and do photography. I couldn't imagine the idea of paying for a Masters degree to be an art teacher and just let it go. I also love my job as an educator and being able to share my passion for art with my students and show them that you can be an art teacher and also create art. I have had my business for 11 and a 1/2 years now and i can honestly say it will never be my full time job (i would be a crazy person cooped up editing all day every day/i need human interaction and editing is a huge part of the process which means alone time) but i have found a good balance and a lil less means more creative mojo for me. I love meeting people, taking pictures, making sessions and locations reflect the family, couple, or individuals likes and interests. I love all of the ways I get to see people and or families grow and change over the years from session to session. I can honestly say that I feel like I have made so many connections and friends through photography. I love running into clients at the store, yoga, coffee shop, etc and catching up even if it is just for a in. I also love seeing their FB posts and what they are up to0. I have met so many beautiful people inside and out.
It warms my heart to look back at all of the amazing things i have been a part of through photography. I get to see my clients grow, change, love, celebrate, cry, laugh, and just capture the present moment.

Finding Balance and Inspiration in the Slow of Winter

Finding Balance and Inspiration in the Slow of Winter

I love the slow of winter!! Time too hibernate. Catch up, and take a lil break from photography and work on the business side of things. I am a busy bee... i do better when I am busy typically. If I have a lot of time I tend to procrastinate, but one of the down sides of beeing busy is that it often drains me of creative inspiration. I have a professional career as an art teacher, a passion for teaching yoga, and own my photography business, Kreativity. Life is a bit of a balance. I love all of the different directions my life takes me but sometimes it is hard to balance all of the background things that need to happen.  I am proud to say that as an art teacher I am a practicing artist and a busy photographer. I always thought it was important to set an example for my students and create art. Often times I am so busy taking pics and editing that I am not getting my hands dirty and creating physical art. One of my goals for 2020 is to create some "physical art" that goes along with my brand and passion for yoga and put it out into the universe.

I have been working on a new website to incorporate yoga, photography, and 'life' since the fall of 2018 and things finally seem to be falling into place. I love the marketing, packaging, and fun things that go along with Kreativity and it's time for the next step and  a lil update!!

Today i felt inspired to work on finding images for the website. I originally wanted to go with one image for each category (newborns, families, bump pics, weddings, et.). I began scrolling through proofs and went down a rabbit hole. Downloading and saving tons of pictures later.... I found myself feeling grateful for all of the clients and amazing moments I have captured. Literally thousands of pictures. Amazing people, families, engagements, weddings, babies.... and watching children grow. How will i possibly pick one picture????? Still not sure what I will do, BUT!!! it inspired me to finally create an instagram page for Kreativity which led me to my zenfolio page and landing me here... starting my Blog.

Funny how sometimes we start somewhere and end up in another place. I needed this natural slow down of the season to get creative and get inspired. I am excited to post in my Blog and post pics on my instagram Kreativity page. I have so many fun ideas and love to write and just want to share art, Kreativity, and some good vibes w the world!!!!
